7 Can’t-Miss Summer Experiences for Tweens at Walt Disney World

By , Public Relations Manager, Disney Destinations

Prepare to experience endless summer fun! Tweens and their families can be part of the 50th Anniversary celebration of Walt Disney World Resort with new magic and exciting adventures.

For our family it’s definitely the adrenaline-spiking rides like Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain, Space Mountain, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. An action-filled day with tweens also means some healthy competition for the top score on Toy Story Mania!, selfies with our favorite characters, and tracking down hidden Mickeys and must-have treats. That’s right! We bond over DOLE Whip, Mickey’s Premium Ice Cream Bar, churros and popcorn. There is something incredibly memorable about classic Disney snacks.

With summer in full swing, it’s time to get out and explore all that Walt Disney World theme parks and resorts have to offer. From thrill attractions, themed lands and epic nighttime spectaculars to world-class entertainment, tweens will encounter their best vacation ever.

Family on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

Take off on an intergalactic chase through space and time on board Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. The all-new family thrill coaster at EPCOT is the longest fully enclosed coaster in any Disney theme park. It will rotate and turn you to the action, which immerses you in an adventure alongside Star-Lord, Gamora and the Guardians, rocking out on a quest across the cosmos to save the galaxy!

Family raising drinks at Space 220 Restaurant

Once your mission is completed, it’s time to visit Space 220 Restaurant – also found at EPCOT. “Travel 220 miles above Earth” and enjoy an out-of-this-world dining experience aboard the Centauri Space Station.

Space travelers visiting Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios can live their own Star Wars adventure! Here you can join the Resistance in a climactic battle against the First Order, pilot the Millennium Falcon to help on a smuggling mission, or simply explore the unique sights, sounds, smells and tastes Batuu has to offer.

Once the sun sets, the magic continues with two new nighttime spectaculars: “Disney Enchantment” at Magic Kingdom Park and “Harmonious” over at EPCOT. Both will light up the night with stunning fireworks and captivating Disney music.

Need a splash? Check out the Disney H2O Glow After Hours party at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park and light-up everyone’s summer nights. The high-energy dance parties transform the storm-strewn water paradise into the perfect family party. Disney H2O Glow After Hours is a separately-ticketed event on Saturday nights through August 27.

Ariel waves to guests during the "Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade" in Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort

Just keep swimming and enjoy recently debuted entertainment, including the freshly reimagined “Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond!” at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park and the new “Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade!” at Magic Kingdom Park featuring Mirabel from “Encanto,” Miguel from “Coco” and more. Fans will also enjoy the beloved Disney “Festival of Fantasy” Parade at Magic Kingdom featuring characters from “The Little Mermaid,” “Tangled,” “Peter Pan” and more bringing their stories to life in a spectacular way. Be sure to capture your magical, summer moments greeting and hugging some of your favorite characters … I know hugging Mickey Mouse always puts a smile on my face.

And these are just some of the experiences you won’t want to miss this summer! So remember to plan your visit with the help of Disney Genie service available on the My Disney Experience app. While you’re planning, be sure to look at our summer Disney Resort hotel offer for Disney+ subscribers. Disney Resort hotel guests enjoy more time in the parks with early theme park entry every day at all four parks – giving them access to select attractions, shops and dining before regular park hours.

Summertime is short … let’s go!
